Clayton's changed a lot since we started building fences in the Triangle. Farm fields along NC 42 are neighborhoods now. What hasn't changed is how we work. Our crews still roll out of the Garner shop on Old Mechanical Court, and an owner still signs off on every job.

Plenty of fence companies put Clayton on their map. Fewer can get a crew to your yard before lunch. Our shop is just up US 70 in Garner, so a Clayton estimate isn't a special trip.
Family-run since the 1980s. Emmett Goodwin Sr. started the company. His son Emmett Jr. runs it today.
Our crews, not a sub's. The same crews who build our Garner fences build yours, with an owner supervising.

Johnston County has grown fast, and Clayton's lots aren't all alike. Each kind changes how we plan a fence.
Flowers Plantation, Tuscany and San Marino have HOA design rules. We read yours before we draw a layout, so the first design gets approved.
Glen Laurel, Knolls at the Neuse and Portofino often back up to the river. Grades drop and the ground stays wet. We mark easements before we pick post spots.
Riverwood and Austin Pond have big wooded lots. A long run of wood privacy or split rail often beats vinyl there. We'll tell you which fits the budget.
Near Main Street, lots are tight. Shared lines, old fences and big trees are the usual puzzle, so we walk the line with you first.
We'll help you put together the site plan the Planning Department asks for, with lot lines, easements and fence height marked.
Clayton wants paperwork on almost every fence. Skip it and you could be pulling up new posts. Here's what the Town lists:
Fences and walls up to 6 feet need a Zoning Compliance Permit. Anything taller needs a building permit too.
Lot line distances, easements, fence height and a photo of the material.
You can build on your line. Tying into a neighbor's fence needs their OK.
No fences in easements or in the sight triangle at a corner or driveway.
Rules change, so we confirm the details with Clayton's Planning Department at (919) 553-5002 before materials get ordered.
Every wood post goes in concrete, on a small Flowers Plantation lot or a wooded acre by the river. For businesses along US 70 Business, we build chain-link, cantilever gates and dumpster enclosures.
